Tech recruit Josh Oglesby has been playing tailback for Garner High School (N.C.) this season, a good move for him considering that is the position he is being recruited to play for the Hokies. The 5-11, 205-pound recruit, a fullback last season in Garner’s power-I offense, has helped his squad to a 5-1 record in 2006.
“The season is going good,” Oglesby noted. “Everything is going as expected except for that one loss. We just started conference play and we’re looking to make a run for conference champions again. We have a lot of prospects in our conference this year, so it’s a lot tougher than it was last year. We still have a lot of athletes, but we don’t have as many as we did last year. We’re more of a young team this year, so I’m just trying to be a leader.”
Garner’s only loss was the only game Olgesby has missed. The standout running back suffered a high ankle sprain and was out for Garner’s 14-9 loss to Riverside. He has been productive this season with a 66-carry, 604-yard performance so far. He has scored 12 touchdowns on the year.
“Each week, each team is stacking the box,” Oglesby said. “I get the ball about 15 times a game. I take quite a beating, but it’s part of the game and I’m feeling pretty good.”
