Marlboro County (Bennettsville, S.C.) brothers Tyrell Edwards verbally committed to Virginia Tech earlier this summer, accepting January 2010 gray-shirt opportunities. One of the brothers has now publicly de-committed from Virginia Tech, although he is still considering the Hokies offer.
“Tyrell did de-commit,” said Marlboro County head coach Dean Boyd, who guided the team to a state semifinal this season. “N.C. State is looking at offering those young men at regular enrollment and not gray-shirt. N.C. State told Tyrell that he couldn’t take an official visit there as long as he was committed somewhere else. He wanted to get a visit there. I think he and his brother are still excited about Virginia Tech, but not about the gray-shirt deal.”
Tyrell has set an official visit to N.C. State according to Boyd, who wasn’t sure of the exact date.
“Tyrell is really in a good situation,” Boyd said. “He still has the gray-shirt if he wants it, but he can also see what N.C. State does.”
