VT Interested in PK Branthover

DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) place-kicker Michael Branthover enjoyed a big-time junior season, connecting on 57 of 58 extra points, seven out of eight field goals with a long of 44 yards and booting touchbacks 80-percent of the time. The 5-11, 180-pound rising senior, who also serves as the Stags starting punter, is looking for his first FBS scholarship offer.

“I’m getting interest from Virginia Tech and also from Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas State, Cincinnati, a little bit from Rutgers and N.C. State,” Branthover said. “Mainly, that’s it for now.”

Branthover visited Virginia Tech earlier this spring. Head coach Frank Beamer and company are sincerely interested, but, barring a change, won’t extend a scholarship offer.

“I took a visit the last day of our Spring Break,” Branthover said. “The campus is beautiful. I couldn’t complain about anything. They are not planning on signing me because they only have a certain amount of full rides. As of now, I’m still being recruited by Coach Hite, but I’m not going to get a scholarship.”
