Blessed Sacrament Huguenot (Powhatan, VA) offensive tackle Augie Conte has made his choice. After making visits to finalists UVa and Virginia Tech this week, the 6’6″, 270-pound rising senior has decided to don the maroon and orange of Virginia Tech.
“I’m going to Virginia Tech,” Conte said early this afternoon.
Conte’s commitment is a big one for the Hokies on several fronts. First and foremost, the offensive line is perhaps the top remaining need for Tech in this 2012 class. Conte gives Tech two O-line commits with Pennsylvania offensive guard/center Jack Willenbrock being the other. And secondly, Conte chose Tech over UVa, the school he grew up following.
“I really liked the way I was treated at Virginia Tech,” Conte said, discussing why he chose the Hokies. “I loved the campus. I really liked Coach Frank Beamer. I liked all the coaches. I liked the football program. I just felt at home there. I really liked it.”
