Are Cavs Eyeing Ashley?

One of the most recent names on Virginia’s recruiting list is that of Walker Ashely, a 6-4 ½, 285 pound defensive line prospect out of Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota. According to Ashley, the Cavaliers interest in him began in late May, when a Virginia coach came in for some game film. The interest increased dramatically over the summer.

“The interest from UVa really started picking up towards the end of June,” Ashley said. “Their defensive line coach started sending me handwritten letters then. Their defensive coordinator or offensive coordinator came into our school in May for game film, but I never got to speak to them. I still haven’t actually talked to anyone from there. The first letter was really long. I read that and I like the approach they took with me. They want to talk to me first before doing anything. Ever since, they have been sending me a lot of letters explaining the team defense they run and where they’d like me to play. They are recruiting me to play defensive end. They like my speed from the game film.”

Ashley was hoping to make an unofficial visit to Charlottesville this summer, but that appears unlikely at the moment. If he makes a visit to UVa it will likely be of the official kind.

“I don’t think I’ll be able to make it down for an unofficial,” Ashley said. “If they ask me to come down for an official visit, I probably would because it would more than likely mean good news in terms of an offer. If I visit them, it will be for an official visit.”
