Alaeze made 50 tackles with close to 20 tackles-for-loss and 15 sacks as a junior. For his junior year performance, he earned first team all-division, first team all-metro, first team all-county and second team all-state honors.
As a senior, Alaeze had 18.5 sacks and was named one of just 28 five-star players in the nation by Rivals.com. He was the top defensive end in the nation and the #4 player in the country by Rivals.
Alaeze originally signed with Maryland in February 2005, then failed to qualify academically and played at Hargrave Military Academy in the fall of 2005. Alaeze left Hargrave after the football season but before the end of the semester. He signed again with Maryland in February 2006, but his scholarship was rescinded "due to a violation of the terms of his financial aid agreement."
