Korey Irby was a 4-year lettermand a a 1-year starter for the Hokies. Probably the best athlete the Hokies have had at rover. He played 2nd in the 55 meters in the Atlantic 10 track championships. He had a 40.5 inch vertical jump. Started at whip the first 4 games of 1997, but was lost for the season with a knee injury.
Irby was a very highly touted player out of Maryland. He chose the Hokies over Michigan, Penn State and Rutgers. Tom Lemming considered him one of the top 250 players in the country, #29 in the Mid-Atlantic and the #25 safety in the nation. The Big East/ACC Football Recruiting Roundup rated him the #1 player in the state of Maryland.
