Virginia Tech Defensive Line Production, Part 2

Today we’re going to compare Tech’s starting defensive linemen with some of their past defensive linemen in terms of production. We’re also going to look at total numbers of snaps and try and determine whether it hurts overall production.

Defensive End Comparison

I chose James Gayle and Chris Ellis as my two defensive ends to compare to Ken Ekanem and Dadi Nicolas. I tried to go back to the 1990s and use Corey Moore and John Engelberger as examples, but I can’t seem to find the 1997 Hokie Huddler that listed how many snaps each player had that year. That makes the data incomplete. Besides that, the 90s represent a different era of football in terms of pass rushing. Passing offenses have changed these days, and it’s hard for individuals to put up Corey Moore like numbers. However, we will discuss Moore and that 1999 group a little later in the article.
