Teller a Big Pickup for the Hokies

The Right Fit

Virginia Tech picked up a huge defensive line commitment this afternoon when Liberty (Bealeton) defensive end Wyatt Teller chose the Hokies over UVA.  He is Tech’s only defensive line recruit of the 2013 class, but he is arguably the most physically advanced defensive line recruit of the Beamer Bowl Era.

Teller is a big time recruit. He held offers from Clemson, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee and many others.  He’s ranked #75 nationally by Rivals.com, and #144 by 247Sports.com.  I don’t know if those rankings are accurate or not.  I don’t pay much attention to the types of players that other teams recruit.  What I do know is that Teller is the perfect fit for the Virginia Tech defense.

Teller plays with an intensity level that is rarely seen on the high school level, and perhaps not seen often on the college level as well.  He’s a talented player, but his intensity and aggressiveness make him even better.  He also has the off-field work ethic that it takes to thrive in the Virginia Tech program.  I’ve said before that I think he’s the best pure defensive football player in the state of Virginia this year, and I stand by that statement.  If I could pick one in-state recruit to get this year, it would be Wyatt Teller .
