Whether it was in support of his brother, former Virginia Tech offensive lineman Ryan Shuman, or to make a recruiting visit, or simply to check out a game, Fork Union Military Academy (VA) offensive lineman Mark Shuman has been to Virginia Tech numerous times. He returned this past weekend for an official visit, perhaps seeing Virginia Tech for the last time before February’s signing day.

“It was a little different,” Shuman said of this experience compared to previous ones. “Just being around all of the recruits made it different. I met some new dudes and made some new friends this weekend. Seeing my future teammates, I was able to get to know them a little better. I’m excited I’m going to be there in July.”

One of Virginia Tech’s top recruits in the 2010 class, Shuman has the ability to play sooner rather than later on the next level. He is open to red-shirting next season, but he wants to be ready to compete in case his talents are needed.

“I think I’ve got the good feet to do play early, but I do want to work on my footwork in pass protection,” Shuman said. “My overall strength, I’ll be getting that up. If I get stronger, I think I could compete. Hopefully, I’ll do that. I think the main thing is strength. Coach Cav talked to me about it. He has seen me play basketball and said I have good feet.”
