Farris Talks Enrollment Plans, Nike Performance

The fact that Rockbridge (Lexington, VA) offensive lineman Caleb Farris committed to Virginia Tech during its Spring Game didn’t come as a surprise to many. What did come as a surprise, however, was learning that the 6-4, 300-pound rising senior, one of the top offensive line prospects in the state of Virginia’s 2010 class, plans to enroll at Tech in January of 2011.

Late enrollment is something that excites Farris, who chose Virginia Tech over offers from East Carolina and Marshall.

“I never thought about it until I heard people talking about enrolling late,” Farris said. “I thought it was cool, but I wanted to play earlier. I kept hearing more about it and thinking more about it. I’m 17 now. I’ll play my senior season at 17. I’ll be graduating at 18. When I start my first semester in January of 2011 I’ll be 19 and I’ll be able to get an extra year lifting, getting familiar with the playbook and the campus and everything. I see a lot of positives to it. And I’ve worked it out to where I’ll pretty much get my Masters degree for free.”

To be clear, Farris was not offered by Tech as a “grayshirt.”
