Top Camp Performer Commits to Tech

One of the more impressive performers at Virginia Tech’s July senior camp has decided to commit to the Hokies. Bethel (Hampton, VA) defensive end James Gayle , who posted a 4.59 time in the 40 among other highlights at Tech’s camp earlier this month, has accepted a scholarship offer from the Hokies.

The 6-4, 220-pound Gayle chose Tech over offers from Central Florida, East Carolina, N.C. State, Purdue and Syracuse. He informed Jim Cavanaugh of his decision earlier today.

“I called Coach Cavanaugh and told him I’d like to play for Virginia Tech,” Gayle said. “He was really excited.”

As a result of his standout performance at camp, Gayle left Blacksburg on July 12th with an offer from the Hokies. He was excited about the offer then and certainly remained so almost two weeks after the fact.
