2008 Class: VT, UVa Offer Goochland’s D.J. Coles

It didn’t take Virginia and Virginia Tech long to extend written scholarship offers to Goochland (VA) junior talent D.J. Coles . Both programs offered the 6-3, 198-pound running back on September 1st, the first day 1A coaches could offer juniors. Both programs sent multiple coaches to Goochland High this fall.

“D.J. has written offers from Virginia Tech, UVa and Maryland,” Goochland Head Coach Joe Fowler said. “But he has a lot of schools showing interest right now. I have letters for him from Georgia, Notre Dame, Florida State, Kansas State, Clemson and Alabama. We had one other 1A prospect before and it wasn’t like this. This fall was like a revolving door of college coaches.”

The accolades have been piling up for Coles, who finished his junior season with 1,403 yards rushing (a 12.3 yards-per-carry average) and 22 rushing touchdowns. He earned Group A, Region Player of the Year honors. He was named first-team all-region at running back. Today, it was released that he made first-team all-metro honors at running back by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Coles helped Goochland to a 14-0 season and a Division II state championship crown.
