Milford (OH) FB Joey Razzano (6-0, 230, 4.7 forty) verbally committed to Virginia Tech Tuesday night. His commitment comes after months of speculation that he would indeed become a Hokie before summer’s end.

“He committed to Virginia Tech earlier tonight,” said Joey’s father Rick Razzano. “Coach Hite called earlier, and Joey told him that he wanted to go ahead and commit.”

Razzano committed to the Hokies over the Ole Miss Rebels, where his brother is the starting fullback. For two months, he had narrowed his list to Virginia Tech and Mississippi. In the end, his heart was with the Hokies.

“He and his brother have a great relationship, and that is what made it hard for Joey,” said Rick Razzano. “He tried to like Ole Miss, but his heart was at VT. He has great respect for Coach Beamer and Coach Hite. It is a beautiful campus. They are one of the nation’s elite programs, and we are real happy he made his decision.

“Plus, he is looking forward to playing with Marcus Vick. He is a big Michael Vick fan…I guess he is just a big Vick fan in general.”

Earlier in the summer, it was reported that Razzano had committed to Virginia Tech. Those rumors had no affect on Joey’s decision making process.

“We didn’t even talk about it [speculation],” said Rick Razzano. “It never came up. It was kind of surprising that he made his decision tonight given that we haven’t mentioned anything for several months. But he [Joey] felt the time was right.”

For now, Joey will focus on finishing his high school career. Over the summer, he worked hard to rehabilitate an injured ankle. His father, who is the head coach at Milford, indicated that the ankle is completely healed, and Joey is back to 100%. Milford is 1-1 on the season.

Joey is the 3rd verbal commitment in two days for the Hokies, and the 8th overall. He is projected as a fullback for the Hokies.
