On April 26, the Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse team won their first ACC Tournament game in school history, beating Duke 13-12. The next day they were knocked out of the tournament by No. 5 North Carolina, who was one of just two ACC teams to beat the Hokies all season.
Unfortunately, Virginia Tech ended up in UNC’s bracket in the NCAA Tournament, and they got similar results. They beat Georgetown 13-10 on Friday for the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, but they were eliminated by the Tar Heels 17-8 on Sunday afternoon. Both NCAA Tournament games took place in Raleigh.
Nevertheless, it was a wildly successful second season for head coach John Sung. His team accomplished the following achievements…
1: Most wins in school history.
2: Most ACC wins in school history.
3: First year with multiple All-ACC performers.
4: First ACC Tournament victory.
5: First NCAA Tournament berth and victory.

Track and Field Clinches the Commonwealth Clash for Hokies
The ACC Outdoor Championships were held in Coral Gables, FL over the weekend. Virginia Tech’s women’s team placed second in the ACC, while the men’s team finished third. Both teams finished above their in-state rival UVA, clinching the Commonwealth Clash for the Hokies for the second straight year. The Commonwealth Clash is a head-to-head competition between Virginia Tech and Virginia across all sports, and we’ll have a full article on Monday covering what happened throughout the entire competition.
