Three days after this game ended, there’s a lot to unpack, but I’ll start where everyone else did: the final play.
I watched the first half of this game in downtown Blacksburg (at Sharkey’s) and the second half in my basement at home. When that last play went to review, I knew the call was going to be overturned and that Virginia Tech was going to lose.
It has nothing to do with the rules. Nothing to do with “indisputable evidence.” Nothing to do with corrupt replay officials being set on preserving Miami’s status as a top-10 team.
It has everything to do with sheer, random chance and my belief that if you leave yourself open to the whims of replay officials, then you have failed, and what remains is a roll of the dice.
