For Cousins, Workout Partners Drones And Ward, Virginia Tech-Miami Matchup Is For Bragging Rights

About twice a week, private quarterbacks coach Darrell Colbert Jr. patches in his primary pupils on a group call, catching up with Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders and Kyron Drones over FaceTime to discuss their week, upcoming games and often life in general.

The four-way call gets complicated when two of the quarterbacks are about to face off against one another, however, requiring Colbert to call a simple but effective audible.

“Oh, man, we don’t do it,” he said with a laugh.

Colbert, who runs Select QB Athletics in Houston, learned that lesson last year when Ward’s Washington State squad squared off with Sanders’ Colorado. Given their competitive nature, the two had little desire to converse directly with each other. Separate calls were scheduled to compensate.
