NORFOLK — Antwaun Powell-Ryland couldn’t stop smiling after the Hokies’ 37-17 win over Old Dominion.

The Portsmouth native played the game of his life in his homecoming, tying Virginia Tech’s school record with four sacks for the second time in his career. He had a team-high seven tackles and forced two fumbles, too.

The performance put him in elite company: The only other Tech player with two four-sack games in a career is Hall of Famer Bruce Smith, who was on the Hokie sideline on Saturday.

“That’s amazing, that’s Bruce Smith!” a nearly speechless Powell-Ryland said when informed of the record after Tech’s victory. “Oh, that’s crazy. That’s Bruce Smith. To be in a conversation with Bruce Smith is saying I’m doing something right. So for me, I’ve just got to keep going. I’ve got to try to be on that level even more.”
