The postmortem to any loss can be difficult, especially one to start the season.
Saturday’s stunning 34-27 overtime loss to Vanderbilt led Hokies coach Brent Pry to revisit the lead-up to the game, trying to figure out what led to the team’s slow start and general sloppiness out of the gate.
“You can’t ever feel like you’re better than you are,” Pry said. “You hear me say all the time, ‘Humble and hungry.’ … It’s my job as a head coach to make sure that we come out guns blazing and playing really tough and really hard. I don’t think we did that. It wasn’t long into the game where I felt like we lost that and it took too long to get it back.”
The last few days have involved some soul-searching but also a turning of the page ahead of Saturday’s home opener against Marshall (1-0) at 4:30 p.m. on the CW Network.
