Virginia Tech Preseason Talk: Tight Ends

It’s time for what is usually our shortest preview article of the preseason: a look at the Virginia Tech tight ends. There are only four scholarship players, which is pretty easy to preview. What is harder is how much and exactly how they’ll be used once the season gets going.

Here are the four players that tight ends coach Stu Holt and offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen have to work with:

Nick Gallo: 6-4, 245, r-Sr.
Benji Gosnell: 6-5, 240, r-So.
Harrison Saint Germain: 6-4, 252, r-So.
Zeke Wimbush: 6-2, 240, r-Fr.

I write an updated weights article this year, but sometimes it can be hard to know whether or not a weight is accurate or not. I especially wonder about accuracy when so many players’ weights are pretty generic. For example, 240, 245, 250, etc. That’s the case with three of Tech’s four tight ends. Well, I saw Benji Gosnell in person in street clothes on Saturday and he looks bigger than 240 to me, especially with his height. I’d guess around 250, with 240 as my bare minimum guess.
