No matter what decision he made, Hunter Cattoor wanted to be at peace. Ultimately, he chose to stay at Virginia Tech for a fifth and final season, which he announced Tuesday.

He swung back and forth between pursuing professional opportunities and returning to college. In the end, the relationships he built since arriving in Blacksburg in 2019 won out, and he’ll spend one more year in his “second home.”

“I felt, when I was ready, that coming back was the best decision for me,” Cattoor told reporters on Monday. “… What came down to it was the relationships here, kind of being here for four years and knowing what I was going to get out of this year with the coaching staff and kind of having unfinished business. We didn’t have the year we wanted to have last year, so [I wanted to] come back and leave my mark and go off on a good note.”

After coming to his decision on Thursday, April 13, he let it sit for a few days. “I felt like I finally had a clear mind and 100% was like, ‘This is the decision I wanted to make,’” he said. And when it got time to announce on Tuesday, he never second guessed it, instead following his heart.
