An opportunity to win a National Championship doesn’t come along very often for Virginia Tech, but the Hokies will get that chance in Dallas this weekend when the women’s basketball team competes in the Final Four.
You can just about count on one hand every opportunity the Hokies have had to win a National Championship. Some of the chances were more realistic than others, but here’s what I came up with after spending some time thinking about it…
Football, 1999: Virginia Tech led Florida State 29-28 at the end of the third quarter in the Sugar Bowl, but faltered over the final 15 minutes of the game.
Men’s Soccer, 2007: The Hokies made it all the way to the College Cup (Final Four) before falling to Wake Forest, 2-0.
