Monday Thoughts: That Championship Look

It took some time, but Kenny Brooks took Virginia Tech to new heights. The Hokies won the ACC championship on Sunday. (Allie Lawhon/ACC)

I left Blacksburg shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday so I could be in Greensboro when Virginia Tech women’s basketball won the ACC tournament championship.

Not if. When.

I know, it’s sports, and anything can happen, and it often does. But after 10 straight wins, including five over ranked teams, and two blowout wins in the ACC tournament, if you weren’t convinced that this team was steamrolling its way to a championship, I don’t know what other evidence you needed. I don’t remember the last time I was this sure that a Virginia Tech team was going to win a big game. A championship.

I didn’t need more convincing than those 10 straight wins, but as I rolled into the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center to switch vehicles for the drive down to Greensboro, the last song to play from my Spotify playlist was “I’ve got a Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas.
