At the ACC Tipoff in Charlotte on Wednesday, I polled a handful of people around the league and got their thoughts on this year’s Virginia Tech basketball team. In addition, ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips answered a question about the program in his press conference.

At 8:30 a.m., Phillips opened the men’s media day with a forum. While he was asked about topics such as the college football playoff, NCAA Tournament expansion and revenue growth, his final question concerned the Hokies.
The Washington Post’s Gene Wang asked Phillips, “How does it benefit the profile of the conference when you have a school like Virginia Tech, a non-blue blood, non-traditional program, as the reigning basketball champion?”
Since the Hokies joined the league in 2004, eight schools have won the ACC Tournament, listed below by number of titles:
