It’s June, which means on-campus recruiting is open again, and some recruits are starting to take their official visits. That’s true also for Virginia Tech, as the Hokies were scheduled to host a couple of 2023 prospect in recent days.

Today we’ll go over those guys who have taken, or will soon take, official visits to Virginia Tech. This coming weekend currently looks to be one of the biggest – if not the biggest – official visit weekends of the summer. These days it can be hard to tell who Virginia Tech – and every other school for that matter – is seriously recruiting because of the large number of “offers” that are extended. However, if a player uses one of his five official visits on a school, then it’s clear there is serious interest between both parties.

June 3

North Carolina defensive lineman Isaiah Shirley took his official visit to Blacksburg on June 3. Shirley is rated as the No. 17 player in the state of North Carolina, and at 6-3, 259, he projects as a defensive tackle in the Virginia Tech scheme.

He’s also listed with offers from schools such as Duke, NC State, Tennessee, Louisville, West Virginia, and others. Shirley keeps his recruitment very quiet, other than announcing his latest offers on Twitter, but the fact that he would use one of his official visits on the Hokies shows there is legit mutual interest.

Shirley plays for Watauga High School in Boone, about 150 miles from Blacksburg.

Ayobami Tifase is a new name. He’s a big defensive tackle from Maryland who was unranked by the recruiting services until this week. After picking up offers from the Hokies, Florida State, Arkansas, Louisville, Miami and Rutgers, he’s now ranked as the No. 8 prospect in his state in the 2023 class.

Tifase is an impressive physical specimen who has announced a top four of Tech, FSU, Arkansas and UConn. It’s a pretty safe bet that he won’t end up at UConn. He took his official visit to Blacksburg this week, and he’ll also visit FSU and Arkansas this week. That’s three official visits in one week, which must be a bit of a whirlwind.

The fact that he’s taking so many visits in such a short amount of time tells me that he’s probably looking to make his decision soon.

This weekend looks to be the biggest weekend of the summer in terms of official visits. Committed quarterback Dylan Wittke will visit, but there will be a number of uncommitted targets this weekend as well.

North Carolina safety Da’Shawn Stone confirmed on Twitter that he will be in Blacksburg this weekend. He’s already taken one official visit to UVA. Duke and Wake Forest have also offered. He is currently unranked by 247, but that will change as rankings are completed by the end of the summer.

South Carolina athlete Thomas Williams is a new name on the board, and he also confirmed on social media that he will be in Blacksburg this weekend. He’s one of the best pure football players that the Hokies are recruiting in this cycle. He plays running back and safety in high school, but is a likely safety in college. Brent Pry previously recruited him at Penn State. He’s the No. 8 player in South Carolina, and I would say the Hokies have an excellent chance here.

Northern Virginia linebacker Caleb Woodson will be in town for his official visit. Virginia Tech is
