Virginia Tech Adds To Strength & Conditioning, Sports Science Staffs

I’m a big fan of the staff additions that were announced by Virginia Tech football on Monday. They are all critical roles in player development, and they include one new position that was created by head coach Brent Pry.

First, Virginia Tech announced four assistants for Strength & Conditioning Coach Dwight Galt IV, and later they announced two other hires on the nutrition/sports science side of things (one of which is a retention rather than an outside hire). Today I’ll try to explain each hire to you, why I think they are good hires, and try to put things into context when compared to the previous Tech staff.

New Position: Director of Sports Science, Football

Bryan Jackson was hired from William & Mary for this role, and his hiring was announced along with Carly Harris, who was retained as the football nutritionist. Jackson and Harris “will work in close conjunction with Pry, as well as director of football strength and conditioning Dwight Galt IV, Tech’s sports medicine and athletic training team, and the rest of the football staff.”
