Chris Coleman: It can take awhile to build an offensive line in your own image. Vance Vice’s first three offensive lines at Tech were competent, but not dominant. He did a great job with the 2019 group, which started true freshmen at center and right guard as well as a redshirt freshman at right tackle. However, it was only after he had all of his own players and they had gained experience that the offensive line really started to dominate (2020, and the second half of 2021).

There could be a couple of reasons for why it took that long. First, it can take awhile to develop an offensive lineman. From a physical standpoint, it’s the toughest position on the field, and it can be very difficult for a young player to move a 21-year old defensive tackle with four years in the weight room in a direction he doesn’t want to go.

Second, it’s possible that Vice didn’t inherit guys who were fits for what he wanted to do, so he had to improvise. If that’s
