1) What players currently on roster could you see moving positions for 2022 season? – Ranger Sam

Chris Coleman: I mentioned a couple in yesterday’s article on the 2022 defensive recruits – Jayden and Jorden McDonald.

Both were listed at 6-4, 215 as redshirts this season, and they’ve both got big frames. Brent Pry likes to use three linebackers rather than two, and in his scheme it’s the mike (likely Dax) who comes off the field in obvious passing situations.

I believe it’s the Sam spot in his system that is generally lined up to the side of the field as the slot, so it’s important that player have good coverage capability. The McDonalds played a lot of coverage in high school, and they’ve both got the frame to be linebackers. I could certainly see one of them, or perhaps even both, tried at that spot this spring. Perhaps even Devon Hunter could get a shot there if he’s still in the program for a sixth season.
