Talking Potential Virginia Tech Offensive Coaches

Virginia Tech

Yes, I know the question that everybody is asking. “What are you hearing about Virginia Tech’s offensive coordinator search, or any potential offensive coaches for that matter?” I’ve put off writing about it in hopes that a few names would pop up, but I can’t delay it any longer, so let’s talk about it.

Thus far, Brent Pry has named most of his defensive staff (with the Ryan Smith situation pending, and we still aren’t quite sure what position Shawn Quinn will coach), but he hasn’t named a single offensive coach as yet, much less his offensive coordinator.

Yeah, names have been floating around such as Tyler Bowen, Joe Brady and former VT wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins. But how much of that is accurate, and does any of it make any sense? Will Tech even have a true offensive coordinator with one person solely responsible, or will that responsibility be shared between co-coordinators?

The first thing I’ll do is look at how James Franklin has structured his coaching staff through the years. Yes, Brent Pry is his own man, but he’s coached with Franklin for over a decade, so naturally he would be familiar with the Franklin system and be comfortable within it.
