1) Why doesn’t VT throw to TEs more often? We still have two good ones that seem to be very underused in the passing game. Is our OL situation bad enough that the TEs are needed more than usual this year for extra blocking? – UpperQuad

Chris Coleman: I don’t think I can really answer your question.  I’m not in their heads, nor do I know much about X’s and O’s.  But I do agree that something seems to be missing there.

You guys remember Chris Cunningham?  He transferred from Tech to ODU after the 2018 season.  In fact, he was the third-string tight end for the Monarchs after playing a big role for the Hokies.  He was an average talent, perhaps even a below average talent.  Yet the Virginia Tech coaching staff found a way to get him involved and maximize his abilities.

Seven of Cunningham’s 22 receptions at Virginia Tech went for touchdowns.  That includes four touchdowns on six total receptions when he was a redshirt freshman in 2016.  He was money from inside the five, and the Virginia Tech coaching staff knew how to get him the football.
