Down to a final two, Archbishop Spalding (Md.) three-star cornerback Mansoor Delane is just days away from a decision.
On July 21, Delane announced that he would commit to either Virginia Tech or Maryland. He’s visited both schools multiple times, officially and unofficially this summer. On Wednesday, August 11, he’ll publicly announce which school attend.
“I know, but I haven’t made it public yet,” Delane said. “I told the coaches, both staffs. I’ve still got to talk it over with my family, make sure it fits right in the heart. After that comes, when that’s settled in, that’s when I’ll make it public.”
Delane, Rivals.com’s No. 17 player in Maryland for the 2022 class, officially visited the Hokies June 4. He returned for unofficial visits the weekend of July 10, for Virginia Tech’s cookout July 25, and again earlier this week.
“School-wise it’s a cool college town,” Delane said. “The campus is beautiful. You just get a feel for what the stadium would be like. They have one of the best crowds in college football. I keep going back every time and seeing how genuine my relationship with the coaches is, how they’re going to develop me and fit in their system. That’s why I keep coming back down.”
For Delane, it’s been a combination of defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton and assistant coach Ryan Smith. Hamilton, though, has especially made the difference in this case.
