In May, Northwest Guilford (NC) linebacker Xavier Simmons wrapped up his junior season, an abbreviated one during the spring. Just two weeks later, he had already begun preparations for his senior season. Shortly after, he made his college choice.

It’s been a busy late spring and summer for Simmons,’s No. 43 outside linebacker in the 2022 class. He’s now into daily fall camp practices. But for Simmons, the one thing he doesn’t have to stress about is where he’ll play after this season. On June 19, he committed to Virginia Tech and remains solid with that choice.

“The biggest thing is I’ve had a strong relationship with the coaches, especially Coach Jack (Tyler) since way back, last August,” Simmons said. “We stayed consistent with that, and when I came on the visit, talked with other coaches, I just fell in love with the place. I thought about it a little more and decided to make it happen.”
