The Virginia Tech Friday Q&A: Connor Blumrick, ACC “Value,” and More

1) Given that TSL is a sports-driven site, which player would you like to “sign” due to the NIL, to represent your interests. You don’t have to answer, but, I’m throwing it in….how much would it be worth to you to have an athlete endorse you? – tylerhokie

Chris Coleman: I have no idea how much it would be worth to us.  Will and I would have to talk about that, once we actually get all the information.  For example, we don’t know what limits will be placed on payouts, exactly how each player’s name, image and likeness can be used, etc.

Ideally whoever we “hired” in such an arrangement would have a magnetic personality, but again, we don’t know what they’ll be allowed to do.  Magnetic personalities and charisma wouldn’t matter if the players aren’t allowed to do video for whomever hires them.  If they are, we’d probably just study all the video interviews available for all the current players and decide who is the best fit.

If not, then I suppose it would come down to simple name recognition and popularity among the fanbase.  For basketball, my mind goes to Hunter Cattoor.  He’s a popular player, and he’s still got 2-3 years left at Virginia Tech, so his popularity could grow even more, and thus his value to us could grow.  Signing up Justyn Mutts wouldn’t be as good, I don’t think, as he’s just got one year left in Blacksburg most likely.
