Virginia Tech Basketball Postseason Thoughts, Part 2: The Roster

Virginia Tech
Will Keve Aluma play center or power forward for Virginia Tech next season? That depends on how Mike Young handles the roster this offseason. (Matt Gentry/The Roanoke Times, via AP Pool)

Since the conclusion of Virginia Tech’s 2020-21 men’s basketball season, two players have hit the transfer portal.  That’s one of the reasons I wanted to wait a little while before writing an article about the Hokies’ returning players and available scholarship spots.

It’s March 30, and while it’s possible that Jalen Cone and Joe Bamisile won’t be the only players in the transfer portal, my opinion is that the player exodus is over with for now.  Could we see some more?  Possibly, and that could be dependent on how Mike Young decides to use his remaining scholarships.

Here’s the list of players who will count against the scholarship limit for Virginia Tech basketball next season…

G Storm Murphy (6-0, 180, r-Sr.)
F/C Keve Aluma (6-9, 235, r-Jr.)
F Justyn Mutts (6-7, 230, r-Jr.)
G Tyrece Radford (6-2, 200, r-So.)
G Hunter Cattoor (6-3, 200, So.)
G Nahiem Alleyne (6-4, 195, So.)
C John Ojiako (6-10, 245, So.)
