In retrospect, the whole process happened rather quickly for Milton (Ga.) 2022 three-star quarterback Devin Farrell. In a matter of weeks, he gained a scholarship offer from Virginia Tech, had multiple conversations, then committed Thursday morning.
It was all over roughly a month, though there were two weeks of more intense recruiting. But by Wednesday, Farrell said he was ready to decide. And he knew, despite not having visited in-person due to the ongoing pandemic, that he wanted to be a Hokie.
“One thing I really liked was the consistency,” Farrell said. “We were talking every day, ever since I got the offer, maybe a couple of days before. For the past two weeks, we’ve just been in contact like, twice a day, maybe three times. It was a lot. It would be hour and 30 minute Zooms and stuff. That’s one of the main things I liked about the coaches. Since I did the virtual tours, the fans caught my attention. Everyone I’ve gone to throughout the day, like if I go to basketball practice, they all say Thursday nights at Virginia Tech are crazy. I love everything about the campus that I’ve seen virtually. I like that their food is number one...
