Virginia Tech Basketball: The Unbalanced Schedule And The ACC Tournament

Back on January 7, I wrote an article that covered the fact that Louisville had beaten Virginia Tech 17 times in a row in men’s basketball, and that I’m ready for that streak to come to an end.  I even included a picture of Tech’s future schedule, with the Louisville game on February 13 circled in red.  That’s as close as I come to circling a game on my calendar.

Syracuse was the team I wanted to beat the most when they entered the ACC, for the reasons covered in that article.  Now that Tech has knocked off ‘Cuse a couple of times, my attention has turned to Louisville.  I really want to beat them, and I don’t want to just beat them for NCAA Tournament purposes.  In fact, that’s not even on my mind.  I want to beat them just for the sake of beating them.

I speculated on the TSL Podcast on Monday that the Tech-Louisville game wouldn’t be played because Cardinals head coach Chris Mack tested positive for COVID-19 last weekend.  Sure enough, the announcement came on Wednesday night, and you can imagine my disappointment.  The fact that it has actually been rescheduled for March 3 makes me feel better, assuming that happens, but I’d rather play it this weekend.
