The Virginia Tech Friday Q&A: The Portal, Redshirting, And More

1) For both football and basketball, what made you happiest this year? Could be a game, player, coach, etc. Just the thing from each sport at VT that gave you the most pure joy this season (so far). – TechHokie13

Chris Coleman: For the calendar year 2020, I’d say the thing that made me the happiest in basketball would be beating Villanova.  That was a huge win, and it could pay dividends come Selection Sunday.  Assuming there is a Selection Sunday, of course.  We’ll see how things go.

For football, the seemingly obvious answer would be smacking UVA around and getting the Commonwealth Cup back, but that’s only No. 2 on my list.  My No. 1 is the NC State game.

For much of the offseason, we didn’t know for sure whether or not there would even be a football season.  Then, once we finally knew there would be a season, Virginia Tech’s first two games were postponed due to COVID issues with both NC State and the Hokies.  When Tech finally got around to playing the Wolfpack two weeks after everybody else had started, there was a lot of pent up energy.  Nobody knew what to expect…we were just glad to finally be playing.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but for me, finally playing a football game was like a burden had been lifted off my shoulders.  It was a good feeling to finally be able to watch the Hokies play.  Of course, I’d probably feel differently if the score had been reversed, but Tech hammered the Wolfpack, and that just made it even better.
