CC On Sunday: Lots of Questions

Virginia Tech Athletics
(Virginia Tech Athletics)

Well, that was fairly miserable, wasn’t it?  That third quarter was particularly long.  Once Virginia Tech got stopped at the one yard line in what was a close game, and then Pitt went 99 yards in four plays to turn that close game into a rout, you knew how it was going to end.  It was just a question of the final margin.  But it was only the 8:43 mark of the third quarter.  We still had over 23 minutes of football to endure.  I actually spent most of that time thinking about what I was going to write.

I’m not much of a Ben Affleck fan, but I really enjoy the movie The Sum Of All Fears.  Affleck is a young CIA employee, and he’s being tutored by the Director of the CIA, played by Morgan Freeman.  At one point, he is talking to Affleck about how to handle US Senators, and I love the quote…

“Senators don’t like to be surprised. I always give them a hint of what it is I’m going to tell them, then I give them a little time to get used to it. Then I tell them.”

In the Friday Q&A this past week, I noted that after the season, I was going to do an article, or a series of articles, that outlined everything that I thought was wrong with the program, and my suggestions for fixing them.  Well, I don’t know if I can say anything that will surprise you.  But I could quite possibly say some things that you won’t like, that you’ll feel is disrespectful to some Tech players, or to certain employees of the athletic department perhaps.  I don’t like doing that.  In fact, I can tell you that there’s nothing I like about my job less than having to write articles like this.  But it comes with the territory.
