CC on Sunday: BC Turnovers and VT Running Game Create Lop-Sided Win

Virginia Tech 40, Boston College 14.  That’s a good score, and not one I was expecting.  For the fourth time this season, the Hokies scored more points than I predicted, but for the first time this year their opponent scored fewer than I predicted.  I picked the Hokies to win 34-31, so to me 40-14 is a darn good result.  I suspect most of you feel the same, and that you got a good night’s sleep last night.

This game was more of the same.  Tech’s running game was completely dominant, and the defense gave up a lot of yards.  However, this time around the opposition had a big problem with turnovers.  When you are -5 in turnover margin, as BC was on Saturday night, it’s hard to win.  In fact, it’s hard to not get blown out when are -5 in turnovers, and that’s exactly what happened to the Eagles in front of 1,000 rabid Tech fans in Lane Stadium.

Here are my late Saturday night/early Sunday morning thoughts on the Boston College game.

Hendon Hooker and Health

You might recall us saying that last year Hendon Hooker played with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.  A partially torn labrum, in fact, or so we were told.  That’s probably one of the reasons the coaches were hesitant to start him over Ryan Willis.  I had been wondering if that shoulder was healthy this year, and boy, it sure looks like it is.
