Saturday’s game was a 56-point, 656-yard debacle, but when I checked the ledge on Sunday, no Hokies were standing on it. That’s kind of odd, considering this was UNC, after all.
But I’m right there with you, or in this case, not there with you. Not on the ledge, I mean.
As bad as Saturday’s game was, there were encouraging signs as well. Once Virginia Tech was done spotting UNC a 21-0 lead, the Hokies outscored the Heels 45-35. Tech won the second half 31-21. (Yes, UNC could have scored again if they’d wanted to.) Khalil Herbert is alive and well and still number one in rushing yards per game. James Mitchell had the first hundred-yard receiving game of his career. We saw the return of Hendon Hooker, and he looked solid.
Notice I’m not complimenting or even mentioning the defense. Yikes. They did have a historic day:
