Virginia Tech Fisher Law Firm Friday Q&A

1) What are VT’s biggest position needs in recruiting? (Besides 4-star players) – Lakeridgehokie

Chris Coleman: I would say without a shadow of a doubt that the biggest need for the 2021 class is defensive tackle.  I think the Hokies have addressed just about all their needs at the other positions.  I’d like to sign a true mike linebacker as well, but if I had to prioritize between the two, I would pick defensive tackle.

We saw Bill Teerlinck and Darryl Tapp successfully recruit some of their top priorities at defensive end in Mattheus Carroll and Cole Nelson.  Going back to the 2020 class, when Tapp was first hired he immediately made Robert Wooten his No. 1 priority (and not Alec Bryant, as most assume simply because he was a 4-star recruit at one point), and he got him. I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen with defensive end recruiting.

Defensive tackle is another story.  Tech’s top priority was Tyleik Williams.  They did a good job recruiting him and probably would have gotten him, but then Ohio State decided that they wanted him.  I think the Hokies will have to win a lot
