This season has meant a lot of transition, a lot of adapting. Not only has there been the overhanging cloud of the COVID-19 pandemic on the upcoming season, but 2022 three-star cornerback Jayden Bellamy has had to adjust to a new school and a burgeoning recruitment.
Bellamy, Rivals.com’s No. 39 cornerback in the 2022 class, transferred after last season from St. John-Vianney (NJ) to Bergen Catholic (NJ). He’s also up to 11 offers, though because of the pandemic, he’s only seen a couple of options first-hand. While that’s caused some delay, Bellamy said he’s tried to get some kind of sense of his options.
“Really, I just want somewhere I’m more comfortable and coaches I can rely on and be comfortable around, be able to laugh and focus, too,” he said. “I don’t have a location in mind, just whatever happens is whatever happens. And I don’t know what I’m going to major in.”
Bellamy said he’s unsure of a lot with his recruitment, due to the lack of schools he’s seen in-person. That includes Virginia Tech, which offered a scholarship on Sept. 2.
“I was on the phone with the cornerbacks coach, Coach (Ryan) Smith,” Bellamy said. “I think he’s a cool dude. We talked about video games and all that. He was talking about me and how he liked my film and all that. I’ll be calling him.”
