In April, Oak Grove (NC) tight end Jared Gibble gave his verbal commitment to play for Charlotte. For months, that seemed like the destination he would stick to.
Over the past few weeks, however, Gibble’s conversations with Virginia Tech, especially special teams coordinator James Shibest, increased. So it came as little surprise when the Hokies offered Gibble a scholarship on Sunday night.
Gibble didn’t need long to think over the opportunity, as he publicly announced he’d flipped his commitment Tuesday to Virginia Tech. Now, he’s set to follow in some good company with the Hokies.
“I talked it over with my family that night and the next day, I called Coach Fuente and told him I wanted to be a Hokie,” Gibble said of Virginia Tech’s offer.
