Running Back, Class of 2021
Pinson Valley High School, Pinson, AL
Technically, there’s a top seven for Pinson Valley (Ala.) three-star running back Kenji Christian. Last month, Christian included Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida Atlantic, Kansas, West Virginia and Tennessee on that list. Now, though, there’s really only a couple in the running.
Christian, Rivals.com’s No. 45 running back and No. 26 player in Alabama for 2021, took in four virtual visits in recent weeks that have helped narrow his focus. He’s hinted that he could be ready to make a final decision.
“Basically, I’m looking at the school, the GPA of the team and academics,” Christian said. “I have a relationship with all the coaches who recruit me, but it comes down to relationships and the offense they run.”
Christian has not physically been to Virginia Tech, but had a virtual visit a couple of weeks ago. That, as well as daily contact, has the Hokies in a strong position.
“Me and Coach Lecht (Adam Lechtenberg) talk every day,” Christian said. “We text every day. I play games with Coach Lino (Lupinetti) and they send me records that they think I can break and I think I can break. I like them a lot, and I can just see myself playing for them.”
Lechtenberg has been Virginia Tech’s primary recruiter, and Christian said he likes the balance of their conversations.
“I mean, me and him Facetime every day,” Christian said. “Sometimes, it’s before practice, after or before the weekends. We’re always laughing, making jokes and just talking.”
Overall, Christian said he likes the opportunities he can see with the Hokies.
