While a few decisions have already been made to cancel or postpone fall high school athletics in various parts of the country, Dickinson (TX) three-star offensive lineman Canon Boone has been one of the fortunate ones. Over the past few weeks, Boone said he and his high school teammates have been practicing in their position groups and last week moved to more of a team setting, with offensive and defensive lines going against each other.
For now, the fall season appears to be unchanged for Boone, but plenty of uncertainty still looms. What Boone can control is his recruitment, and over the past few weeks, Boone took in four in-person visits that now have him set up with three schools he’s choosing from. A decision is the next step.
“Obviously, I want a school that has good football, a history of winning can set me up to potentially play at the next level,” Boone said. “Also, if the NFL isn’t an option, I want a school that can set me up career-wise for the rest of my life. I want to major in engineering, so that’s a big part.”
Boone said two weeks ago, he and his family drove to Navy, then made stops at Virginia Tech, Mississippi State and Colorado. The latter three now make up his top choices. Each visit was also his first to each school.
The Hokies seem to have made a favorable impression on Boone.
“I liked it because it’s a college town,” he said. “The surroundings were pretty nice. They have a great campus with great facilities. They’re also building new facilities, which I’m excited to see. Their tradition, they’re big on that....
