As the interest, then offers came in for Stephens City (Va.) 2021 three-star linebacker Keli Lawson, the idea got thrown around: could he play on either side of the ball? The likelihood is that Lawson will stay at outside linebacker, but one of Lawson’s most recent offers, Virginia Tech, at least floated the idea.

“For the most part, they joked around that I could play both sides,” Lawson said. “The first guy I talked to was the receivers coach (Jafar Williams), but it looks like I’ll be a defensive player. It’s wherever I can help the team, whether that’s position-wise or offense and defense. Most of the time (in high school) I’ve spent at outside linebacker, that can come off the edge, cover ground and play a safety-type position, just that hybrid type.”

The Hokies offered Lawson, Rivals.com’s No. 35 player in Virginia for 2021, on Tuesday. He’s visited once before, for a 2019 junior day, but Virginia Tech has remained high on his list.
