When I saw the surprise signing of Marco Lee, my first thought was Virginia Tech might be looking at him as an H-type given how many RBs were on the roster, while H-backs were more uncertain. I thought this without knowing anything other than his weight and that he was a described as a “power runner,” so it wasn’t exactly an informed opinion. When Keene declared for the draft, I’d be lying if I didn’t feel a touch prescient, though having watched him play some, I’m now thinking the easy answer is the best answer, and Lee will be leaned on as a grinder.
Lee arrives at Tech from Coffeyville Community College, which is where Tech also nabbed Brion Murray. It’s a small school named for its hometown, a similarly small city in southeast Kansas that sits just across the border from Oklahoma. The Kansas JUCO programs are some of the best in the country, and their geographical fit falls into the Fuente staff’s wheelhouse, so it’s no surprise the Hokies have been mining the area for talent.
Lee’s 5’11” and 225, or about Jalen Holston-sized. Also like Holston, he played his high school ball in Georgia. Here are Lee’s Hudl highlights…
