On Feb. 21, Lord Botetourt (Va.) 2021 offensive center Troy Everett received his first college scholarship offer, from Charleston Southern. Now he sits at 21. But his most recent offer could sway the rest of his recruitment.
Yesterday, Virginia Tech gave Everett an offer. While the current pandemic and NCAA recruiting dead period have limited visits, he was already plenty familiar with the Hokies. While the offer is a big one, the dead period has also delayed any major movement for Everett in his recruitment.
“It caught me by surprise, I’m not going to lie” he said. “When Coach (Vance) Vice told me, I just kind of sat there in shock. We had been talking. He called me exactly one week ago, randomly. He just texted me (yesterday) and asked if I could call him. We talked for like 20 minutes before he said they wanted to offer. We talk about everything. He’ll come to Botetourt and we’ll talk for like 30 minutes.”
It’s been a sudden change in outlook for Everett. As a result, his mindset has changed as well.
