WR, Class of 2020
Saluda High School, Saluda, SC
It’s only been in the past few weeks that Saluda (SC) 2020 wide receiver Dallan Wright has gotten much traction in his recruitment. He had some FCS offers, but he’s added offers from Virginia Tech, Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina of late.
For Wright, it’s a late start and a recruitment that will also end quickly with National Signing Day next Wednesday. But now that he has three FBS offers, he’s doing his homework on each in preparation for a decision. That could come even closer to fruition after he officially visits the Hokies this weekend.
“(Coaches) said it was probably going to come, just wait,” Wright said. “But I just don’t worry about stuff like that, to be honest. I don’t like to worry about stuff. I’ve just been patient and waiting on everything.
“Some coaches said I was under the radar or whatever because I didn’t go to any camps. I thought I was going to go somewhere to play basketball. My junior year, my stats weren’t all that. I missed half the season, so I didn’t have any numbers.”
Wright said he believes his late rise has also been due to an in-game incident early last season. As a result, he was suspended for five games.
“It was almost halftime and we were beating a team bad,” Wright said. “They put me at safety and I tackled someone. They got up, hit me on the helmet and I hit them back. The high school league just suspended me.”
Virginia Tech has been in contact with Wright since just before the new year. The Hokies talked to those around him, and after doing their homework, offered Wright on Sunday.
