From June to mid-November, Highland Park (TX) three-star quarterback Chandler Morris was set. He’d committed to Arkansas and planned on playing under his father, Chad Morris.
Last month, however, the elder Morris was fired as coach by the Razorbacks and since then, the younger Morris has opened his recruitment back up. Now, however, he’s down to five finalists in Virginia Tech, Auburn, Southern California, Oklahoma, and TCU. Chandler has taken one official visits and has more coming up that could further cement where he’s headed next.
“I just want a program that I’ll fit in and get an opportunity to play early,” he said. “But then again, making sure when the opportunity comes, that I am ready. Just a good fit, good opportunity and a coach that’s going to pretty much be guaranteed to be there. I don’t want to go through a coaching change, but I understand how the coaching profession works.”
The lone official visit Chandler has taken thus far was two weeks ago, for Virginia Tech’s win over Pittsburgh. The trip was his first to Blacksburg.
“It was great to see their campus,” Chandler said. “I’d never been up there. I have a great relationship with Coach (Justin) Fuente and Coach Corn (Brad Cornelsen). It was a sweet game. It was raining, cold and fans still showed up. That shows the passion they have. They have great facilities and are building new ones as we speak, so that’s huge.”
